Biles, Jong top the women’s fields at midpoint of 2021 U.S. Gymnastics Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, June 4, 2021 – Simone Biles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre will take a full two-point lead into day two of the senior women’s all-around competition at the 2021 U.S. Gymnastics Championships. The six-time U.S. national champion posted a 59.550 Friday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, outpacing her 2019 World Championships all-around total by more than half of a point. Sunisa Lee of St. Paul, Minn./Midwest Gymnastics Center (57.350) and Jordan Chiles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Center (56.900) were second and third, respectively.

In the junior competition, Katelyn Jong of Allen, Texas/Metroplex Gymnastics sits atop the field after Day 1 with a 54.100. Kailin Chio of Henderson, Nev./Gymcats Gymnastics (53.000) and Kaliya Lincoln of Frisco, Texas/WOGA Gymnastics (52.650) rounded out the top three.

The women’s competition continues Sunday with juniors on FloGymnastics at 12:30 p.m. CT. Senior women’s Day 2 will air live on NBC at 6 p.m. CT. The junior and senior men’s competition will wrap Saturday. Juniors will stream on Flo at 1:30 p.m. CT, and seniors will be broadcast live on NBCSN at 7 p.m. CT.

Biles led the way on vault (15.550), balance beam (14.350) and floor exercise (14.650). Lee posted the day’s high score on uneven bars with a 15.300.

Jong’s 13.200 on uneven bars led the junior field. Joscelyn Roberson of Texarkana, Texas/North East Texas Elite Gymnastics notched the top score on vault with a 14.350. Ella Murphy of Frisco, Texas/WOGA Gymnastics posted the day’s best score on balance beam with a 13.500, while Lincoln notched the high mark on floor exercise with a 13.750.
