Biles in top senior spot, Pease ahead of juniors on women’s first day at Xfinity U.S. Championships

FORT WORTH, Texas (May 31, 2024) – Simone Biles (Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre) took charge of the senior division, sitting first all-around Friday night, while Claire Pease (Sunnyvale, Texas/WOGA Gymnastics) currently sits ahead of all juniors on the first day of women’s competition at the 2024 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas.

Biles soars past 60

Biles put over three points between herself and the next competitor in the all-around, posting a 60.450 on night one to take control of the senior division. It marked the first time this Olympic quad that a women’s gymnast has scored over 60 points and put the 2016 Olympic gold medalist well in a strong position to potentially win a ninth U.S. all-around title.

Biles leads the field on all apparatus, topping the standings on vault (15.375; 15.800, 14.950), floor exercise (15.200), balance beam (14.800) and uneven bars (14.650). Skye Blakely (Frisco, Texas/WOGA Gymnastics) is second all-around with a 57.050, posting the second-highest scores on vault (14.575; 15.000, 14.150) and beam (14.450). Kayla DiCello (Boyds, Md./Hill’s Gymnastics) is third with a 56.850 in the all-around and is second on floor (13.850) and tied with Jordan Chiles (Vancouver, Wash./World Champions Centre) for second on bars (14.500). Suni Lee (St. Paul, Minn./Midwest Gymnastics Center) currently ranks fourth with a 55.750, including a third-placing score of 14.200 on beam.

Pease up among juniors

Reigning junior Winter Cup and Core Hydration Classic all-around champion Pease currently leads the juniors in all-around competition with a 53.250. She also posted the highest scores of the afternoon on bars (13.800) and beam (14.150). Gabrielle Hardie (Sioux Falls, S.D./Twin City Twisters) ranks second all-around with a 52.400 and is currently tied with third place leader Harlow Buddendeck (Rochester, N.Y. /RGA) on floor with a 13.200. Buddendeck has a score of 50.850 in the all-around. Lavi Crain (Blue Springs, Mo./Great American Gymnastics Express) sits atop the vault scoreboard with a 13.575 (13.950, 13.200).

The Championships continue Saturday, June 1 at 1:30 p.m. CT with U.S. titles and National Teams spots on the line for the junior and senior men. Senior men’s Day 2 action will be broadcast live on CNBC and Peacock beginning at 7 p.m. CT. Women’s artistic athletes will be back on the podium Sunday, June 2 starting at 12:45 p.m. CT.
