Smith wins women’s all-around crown at 2017 P&G Championships

ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 20, 2017 – Ragan Smith of Lewisville, Texas/Texas Dreams Gymnastics, won the senior women’s all-around title at the 2017 P&G Gymnastics Championships at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Jordan Chiles of Vancouver, Wash./Naydenov Gymnastics, and Riley McCusker of Brielle, N.J./MG Elite, were second and third, respectively.

Smith earned a 115.250 two-day total to claim the women’s all-around title, posting a 57.850 on the second day. Chiles edged out McCusker for second, 111.850 to 111.650. Trinity Thomas of York, Pa./Prestige Gymnastics, was fourth at 111.350, and Margzetta Frazier of Erial, N.J./Parkettes National Gymnastics Center, completed the top five with a 110.900.

The individual event champions are: vault, Jade Carey, Phoenix, Ariz./Oasis Gymnastics; uneven bars, McCusker; balance beam and floor exercise, Smith.

The P&G Gymnastics Championships serves as USA Gymnastics’ national championships and determines the men’s and women’s U.S. champions and the U.S. National Team for the junior and senior elite levels.

In addition to several post-Olympic gymnastics tour events, Honda Center also has played host to the 2003 World Gymnastics Championships and the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics. Honda Center and Visit Anaheim are working with USA Gymnastics to stage the championships.

The roster of former U.S. all-around champions is a veritable who’s who of gymnastics, including: women –Simone Biles, Jordyn Wieber, Nastia Liukin, Shawn Johnson, Carly Patterson, Courtney Kupets, Shannon Miller, Dominique Dawes, Kim Zmeskal and Mary Lou Retton; and men – Sam Mikulak, Jon Horton, Paul Hamm, Blaine Wilson, John Roethlisberger, Mitch Gaylord, Peter Vidmar and Bart Conner. The U.S. Gymnastics Championships traces its history back to 1897 for the men and 1931 for the women. This is the first time the event will be held in Anaheim, Calif.
