SAN JOSE, Calif. (August 27, 2023) – Simone Biles (Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre) made history at the 2023 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships, becoming the first gymnast to win eight U.S. all-around titles, and the oldest woman ever to win the all-around.
She claimed three titles on the night – all-around, balance beam and floor exercise – and broke the tie for all-around national championships that she previously shared with Alfred Jochim, who won seven men’s all-around crowns in 1925-30 and 1933. At 26 years and 166 days old, she surpassed Linda Metheny Mulvihill (24 and 100 days in 1971) as the oldest woman to win.
Highlighted on Saturday by scores of 15.400 on floor and 14.850 on beam, Biles posted an overwhelming two-day score of 118.450 to claim all-around gold. She put up a two-day total of 29.300 on beam and 30.200 on floor to win both apparatus, scored 28.400 on uneven bars for the bronze and scored a 30.550 on vault. After her success in San Jose, Biles currently holds 27 U.S. titles and 35 national championship medals overall since her senior debut in 2013.
Shi Jones (Auburn, Wash./Ascend Gymnastics Center) repeated as the U.S. all-around silver medalist at SAP Center with a 114.550 overall. Jones also topped the bars standings with a 29.900, posting the top score on both Friday (14.900) and Saturday (15.000) and collected a bronze medal on floor (28.150).
Leanne Wong (Overland Park, Kan./University of Florida Gymnastics) finished in bronze medal position with a very consistent performance across both days. A big improvement on floor, scoring 14.000 to boost the 13.350 she scored on Friday, catapulted her to bronze with a score of 111.100. Joscelyn Roberson (Texarkana, Texas/World Champions Centre) claimed the vault title with a combined 28.500.
Following the competition, USA Gymnastics named the 2023-24 Senior Women’s National Team presented by Xfinity.
